RV Insurance for Full Timers
Welcome to the Digital Nomad Lifestyle!
More people are choosing to live in their RVs year round in response to rising rents, the rise of remote work, and those who are interested in living a simple or minimalistic lifestyle.
What is a Full-Time RVer?
If you live in your RV more than half of the year, you are considered as a “Full-timer.”
Full timers have given up living in traditional homes, apartments, condominiums, and townhomes. They have traded in their solid foundations for two or four wheels and a life of excitement and uncertainty on the road.
Some full-timers settle down in one place and make their homesteads for years. Others travel from place to place exploring different cities, states, and even countries for the duration of their time on the road.
What is Full Time RV Insurance?
Full Timers RV insurance is a specialized coverage that acts as a safety net for your nomadic lifestyle.
Why Full-Timers Need RV Insurance
Full timers have decided to ditch the high costs of owning, renting, and maintaining a home and are making their homes and homesteads on wheels instead.
So how do full time RVers insure their rolling homes, property, and their most prized possessions?
Full time RV Insurance costs will vary depending on the size, type, class, and other specific factors such as age, insurance history, and selected deductibles that typically range from $250.00 – $1000.00 per incident.
What Does RV Insurance Cover for Full Timers?
Full-timers RV insurance is designed for people who have opted to live in their RV or destination trailer as a permanent housing solution. Many new RVers have taken to the roads since the end of the pandemic to practice social distancing, getting back to nature, and escaping from the cacophony of noise and pollution which is the reality of living in most of America’s overcrowded cities. ‘
Insurance for road warriors includes protections that are similar to that of home insurance. Having comprehensive coverage for your RV while living or traveling on the road can make all the difference in your peace of mind.
Full Time RV Insurance Typically Covers The Following:
- RV Liability Insurance
- Collision Insurance for RVs
- Comprehensive Insurance for RVs
- Repair or Replacement of Personal Items

The Best RV Insurance for Full-Timers, Gig Workers, and Digital Nomads in 2024
After doing a bit of research, I found that there are only a few national companies that offer full-time RV insurance. The costs of getting started with insurance vary by provider.
I found the best rates, coverage and user experience to be through Progressive Insurance.
Why Progressive is the Best RV Insurance for Full-Timers
Many full-time RV insurance providers have an age cap or other stipulations for the year, make, model and type of RV you can insure. Progressive made it easy for me to get a full-time RV insurance quote online and to set up a policy within minutes by completing a series of driving and RV related questions on their website.
The best part about having full-time RV insurance coverage is having the peace of mind in knowing that my travel trailer, its contents, and my personal belongings are all covered in the case of an unexpected incident.
Progressive’s comprehensive RV insurance coverage includes options for emergency roadside assistance.
I had the pleasure of testing out the included emergency roadside service for travel trailers along my journey and found the service to be swift and reliable as a local service person was dispatched to my roadside location within 30 minutes and had us back on the road within the hour.
Honestly, I have no idea of what I would have done there on the side of the road with a blown tire on a 6,000 pound travel trailer without the help of Progressive.
I must say that I was pretty skeptical at first (as I am of most products and services these days), however Progressive showed up and provided the included emergency roadside services on the spot as promised. Their prompt and attentive service helped me to restore my travel trailer (and my mental health) within the hour.
With factors like afffordability, ease of use, add on services, and prompt roadside assistance support (all for less than $20.00 per month), I highly recommend investing in full-time RV insurance with Progressive if you’re a full-timer, digital nomad, or recreational traveler in a Motorhome, Fifth-Wheel, Travel Trailer, or popup.
